ARLINGTON, Va. -- Officials have reported that all 67 people were killed in the plane and helicopter collision that happened late Wednesday evening.

On Thursday officials said the midair collision between an Army helicopter and an American Airlines flight killed all of those aboard the two aircrafts, as they scrutinized the actions of the military pilot and reported that control tower staffing was “not normal” at the time of the country’s deadliest aviation disaster in almost a quarter century, according to the Associated Press.

Late Wednesday evening, following the collision, officials said they recovered at least 28 bodies from the Potomac River.

There were 60 passengers and four crew members aboard the American Airlines plane, and there were three soldiers aboard the helicopter.

Officials are saying this is the deadliest US air disaster in a quarter of a century.
