Nebraska Medicaid implements Prenatal Plus Program
LINCOLN, Neb. -- On Jan. 1, 2025, Nebraska's Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care (MLTC) launched the Prenatal Plus Program, aimed at supporting Medicaid-eligible pregnant mothers identified as at risk for negative maternal or infant health outcomes.
The program looks to reduce issues like low birth weight, pre-term birth, and adverse birth outcomes by addressing lifestyle, behavioral, and non-medical factors affecting maternal and infant health.
Eligibility for the Prenatal Plus Program is limited to pregnant women enrolled in Medicaid who have been designated as at risk by their healthcare provider. Notably, individuals in the 599 CHIP category are excluded from participation.
The Prenatal Plus Program offers five key services eligible for reimbursement under Legislative Bill 857 (LB 857): General Patient Education and Health Promotion, Nutrition Counseling, Psychosocial Counseling and Support, Breastfeeding Support, and Targeted Case Management (TCM).
Nebraska Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) will conduct virtual training sessions for providers. These one-hour sessions are scheduled for Feb. 7 at 12 p.m. CST and Feb. 19 at 7:30 a.m. CST.
Details on how to join these sessions will be added to the MCO’s websites in the coming weeks.
