Sterling and Lourdes Central Catholic Split Tuesday Night Doubleheader
NEBRASKA CITY, NE - The Lourdes Central Catholic Knights split a home doubleheader in Tuesday night hoops against the Sterling Jets, as heard on B103.
The LCC ladies rolled to a 61-24 win in the opening contest. Sterling was just 2/11 from three-point land & 2/8 at the free throw line. Oliwia Ferdyn scored more than half Sterling's points with 14. Lourdes went 14/21 at the charity stripe & a harsh 1/18 from long-range, but they made 22 buckets from two-point land. That was two more than Sterling even attempted! LCC got 14 from Lily Madison & 13 apiece from Lauren Benedict and Mikena Haag. The Knights improved their record to 14-3 on the season, while the Jets fell to 3-12.
In the boys' battle, Sterling came out on top, 52-48. Outside shooting was a highlight for the Jets, as they hit 7/16 from downtown, while the Knights were just 3/11 out there. LCC saw just four players find the points column, led by Vance Poppleton's 19 & Brady Schnitzer's 16. Three player got into double figures for Sterling: Brady Horstman (19 points, 4/8 from long range), Colin Wambold (13 points & 12 rebounds), and Owen Uher (11 points). Sterling is now 3-11 on the season, while LCC slid to 5-12.
The Jets host Weeping Water on Thursday, and the Knights will visit Axtell's gym on Friday.
