Cherry County Ambulance recognizes four employees for years of service
VALENTINE, Neb. - Amid a nationwide shortage of emergency medical service (EMS) personnel, Cherry County Ambulance is celebrating the dedication and longevity of four employees.
Dana Miller marks 25 years of service, Wendy Murphy celebrates 20 years, Jim Wright reaches 15 years, and Billie Brockley completes a decade of commitment to the community.
These milestones are especially remarkable in a field where turnover is high. According to the Journal of Emergency Medical Services, EMS professionals face an annual turnover rate of 20 to 30%. In addition, more than 86% of EMS departments nationwide have reported staffing shortages in the past three years.
"We couldn't do what we do without the help and support of our community and fellow EMS and first responders. Many of the Valentine firefighters have inquired about joining our department, but we just aren't quite ready to let them on yet," Brockley joked about the departments' cooperation. "We couldn't do what we do without them!"
