SIDNEY -- A traffic stop resulted in a felony arrest Sunday, January 5.

At about 8 p.m. Jan. 5, 2025, Nebraska State Patrol contacted the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office to request a K9 deployment on a motor vehicle located at Maverick's, in Sidney. resulting from a traffic stop.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, a Trooper made a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry near Cabela Drive and Old Post Road. During the stop, the Trooper became suspicious of criminal activity and the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) was contacted for its K-9 unit.

CCSO Lt. Tony Knappen responded to the request, along with Deputy K9 Riggs.  Lt. Knappen deployed Deputy K9 Riggs on a 2003 Toyota Camry in which Deputy K9 Riggs alerted, indicating the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle. The search of the vehicle and persons in the vehicle by Nebraska State Patrol Troopers resulted in the location of suspected narcotics. 

The two occupants, David Lancaster, 36, of Coal Creek, Colorado, and Rocky Hall, 67, of Gering, were arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine. Both were lodged in Cheyenne County Jail.
