WAKEFIELD, Neb. -- In what was a thrilling end to a long summer, Malcolm Post 354 has won the Class C Legion Championship over Wakefield with a final score of 1-0.

There were many headlines that featured this matchup, starting with the retirement of Wakefield Head Coach Paul Eaton. After 57 years of coaching baseball, this final game was his sendoff.

Opposing Malcolm Head Coach Tanner Soderberg, was a player under Coach Eaton before his years as a coach. The two shared a nice exchange before and after the game. Eaton was honored before the first pitch for his dedicated service and years as a coach.

Starting Malcolm pitcher Maddox Meyer was lights out. Meyer rung up 10 batters with 10 strikeouts. The only run was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning when Short Stop Carson Frank had a base knock that brought home Mason Wisnieski.

Malcolm goes on to win their third consecutive championship after a lucrative year for not only the seniors, but the junior team as well as the high school team winning their respective championships as well.
