OGALLALA — The Nebraska State Patrol is seeking the public's assistance in locating a vehicle believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash late evening August 1 near Big Springs.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. MT, authorities received a 911 call about the fatality that had occurred on Interstate 80 at mile marker 105, near Big Springs. Troopers, as well as the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office, responded.

Upon arrival, a male was located deceased outside a vehicle parked on the shoulder. The vehicle, a Lincoln Town Car, had a flat tire. Preliminary investigation shows that while the driver of the Lincoln was attempting to change the flat tire, he was struck by a passing vehicle.

The driver of the Lincoln has been identified as Dennis Hall, 72, of Clovis, Calif.

Witnesses reported they saw a vehicle leaving the scene. Evidence located at the scene indicates the vehicle involved was a semi truck-trailer, but there was no specific description. Troopers believe the truck would likely have damage on the front passenger side.

Troopers searched at numerous truck parking locations for a vehicle that may have been involved, but have not been able to locate it at this point.

Anyone with information about this incident, or anyone who observes a semi with front-end damage is asked to call the Nebraska State Patrol at 308-632-1211.
