COLUMBUS, Neb. -- Authorities have released additional information on an officer-involved shooting that happened at the beginning of the week in Columbus. 

The Nebraska State Patrol identified the 17-year-old who was shot and killed as Chase Ditter of Columbus. 

On Tuesday around 1 p.m., the NSP said Columbus Police officers were doing a welfare check following a report of potential self-harm at a home in the 3600 block of 39th Ave. in Columbus. 

Officers said they had contact with Ditter inside the home, and he had a knife. 

The NSP said that during the encounter, a Columbus Police officer shot his weapon and hit Ditter. Another officer was reported to have deployed a TASER during the incident. 

Ditter ended up succumbing to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Columbus Police Department has requested the NSP to investigate the incident. 

The NSP said their Special Investigations Team is conducting the in-custody death investigation. 

CPD said they have placed both officers involved in the incident on administrative leave. 

This is an ongoing investigation.
