81-year-old in recovery following Columbus accident

COLUMBUS, Neb. -- Authorities said a man is in recovery following a two-vehicle accident in Columbus earlier this week.
The Columbus Police Department said the 81-year-old man is recovering after a car accident he was in on March 20 in Columbus.
CPD said around 5:09 p.m. they were dispatched to the intersection of 20th and 28th Ave. for a vehicle accident where one vehicle had flipped onto its top.
When officers arrived, CPD Capt. Doug Molczyk said they found that a Cadillac XT5 had collided with a Chevrolet Equinox, and the Equinox was lying on its top.
Molczyk reported that an officer went to the passenger side door of the Equinox, where the driver was found lying motionless and not breathing at the time.
CPD said paramedics arrived and took over.
The 81-year-old man was pulled from the vehicle and transport to a local hospital, according to officials, and he was subsequently taken to a hospital in Lincoln for further treatment.
Molczyk said that all officers, paramedics and the hospital staff all caring for the man may have saved his life.
"Great job by all those involved in the response," Molczyk said.
CPD said that the driver of the Cadillac was identified as a 54-year-old woman.
According to Molczyk, the initial investigation indicates that the driver of the Cadillac was traveling westbound on 20th St. and the Equinox was heading south on 28th Ave. .
Molczyk said that a witness had indicated the Cadillac, which was heading west had entered the intersection of 20th St. and 28th Ave., and collided with the Equinox that was southbound on 28th Ave.
Authorities said that no charges have yet been filed in regard to the accident.
This is an ongoing investigation.
