Kearney man sentenced to prison for over 17 years

A man from Kearney was sentenced to 17 1/2 years in prison for drug- and firearm-related charges.

KEARNEY, Neb. -- A man from Kearney was sentenced to 17 1/2 years in prison for drug- and firearm-related charges.

U.S. Attorney Steven Russell said 36-year-old Brandon Goodsell, of Kearney, was sentenced on Wednesday possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. He will serve 210 months in prison along with four years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, Goodsell was on a motorcycle when he fled from Nebraska State Patrolmen at high speeds through York and Hamilton counties on Aug. 2, 2020. He crashed into a ditch in Hamilton County and was arrested.

Officials said Goodsell was wearing a backpack which and officers found a loaded pistol, more than 200 grams of meth in five different bags, marijuana, hash oil, a scale, baggies and multiple items of drug paraphernalia.

This case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol, the York County Sheriff’s Office, and the Trident Task Force which is made up of officers from the Grand Island Police Department, Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Hastings Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Kearney Police Department, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
