DAVID CITY, Neb. -- Authorities are investigating after two people were found dead in a Butler County home.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the discovery was made Friday afternoon after the Butler County Sheriff's Office was called by family members to conduct a welfare check at a home on N. 4th Street in David City.

The Butler County Attorney’s Office requested that the Nebraska State Patrol conduct the homicide investigation. The two people found in the home have been identified as Dagmara Dorta Diaz, 29, and Alfonso Palmero, 34. Both were located with suspected gunshot wounds.

After a preliminary investigation, investigators believe Palmero shot Diaz before shooting himself, according to NSP spokesperson Cody Thomas. Diaz had a protection order against Palmero.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office has assisted in the investigation.
