COLUMBUS, Neb. -- Much of the state's anticipated New Year's snow accumulation did not materialize, but cold air continued to put a damper on many people's holiday plans.

Much of the Columbus area, like many other parts in the state, saw little more than an inch of snow thanks to dry air stifling most of the potential precipitation.

Meanwhile, the region got overnight temps that dipped below zero with an overnight low of minus-7 degrees. On New Year's Day, Columbus and the much of the rest of the Platte Valley got wind chills approaching minus-20 degrees.

Saturday night and Sunday morning will have a similar feel, with overnight lows dropping as low as minus-10 in parts of the region. Later Sunday morning and afternoon should be more appealing, however, with temperatures creeping to near 30 degrees.
