COLUMBUS, Neb. -- Authorities say two people were struck by an accidentally discharged firearm near a Columbus Casey's Sunday afternoon.

The Columbus Police Department says a shotgun that had previously jammed had been left in the backseat of an unoccupied pickup and discharged while the owner was inside the store.

The discharge struck a nearby vehicle, as well as two people exiting the store, who were treated for minor injuries.

Columbus PD says it is believed that one of two dogs that were left inside the pickup somehow set off the firearm.
