Home destroyed, neighbors evacuated due to Schuyler fire
SCHUYLER, Neb. -- A Colfax County home faced significant damage due to a fire on Sunday morning.
Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl early Sunday morning that a house on W 11th Street in Schuyler was fully engulfed in flames.
Authorities said that just before 7 a.m. Schuyler Police Officer Ryan Andel and a passerby spotted flames coming from a home located at 105 W 11th Street.
Officer Andel and the passerby lifted people to safety through windows in the home.
Kracl also said that there were cars at the residence, and the home next door had been evacuated.
The Colfax County Emergency Management posted to Facebook that the viaduct in Schuyler was closed due to a fire.
They asked that people avoid the area south of the viaduct.
News Channel Nebraska talked to the Schuyler Fire Department Sunday afternoon, and got information that the rear side of the house was the part of the house on fire. David City Fire Department was called in for mutual aid.
The Fire Department also told NCN that two people were taken to a nearby CHI Medical Center in Schuyler for smoke inhalation treatment.
There is no report yet on how the fire started.
The Nebraska State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.
