SIDNEY – Brandon Bondegard is asking for voter support to return to the Sidney City Council.

Bondegard is completing his first four-year term. He is presently serving as mayor.

He said when he first ran for office, he was motivated by a desire to get involved.

“Instead of complaining about everything, I figured might as well get in and try to join the help and see if there is anything I can do,” he said.

The first term has been educational, according to Bondegard.

“It’s been interesting; a lot of changes, a lot of good, positive things coming to Sidney,” he said.

He is among the council members who thinks updating Sioux Villa as a priority. He said if re-elected the north Sidney housing will be a priority. He also wants to get taxes lowered. He said balancing the city’s budget and lowering taxes is a balance of fixed expenses and discretionary spending.

“It’s a combination of both. It ... it is. I mean, like buying a new trash truck. Everybody likes their trash being picked up, so, half a million dollars there,” he said.

He said the housing focus includes the completion of new homes being built.

One of the biggest challenges he’s seen is the change in the local workforce since the closing of Cabela’s corporate in Sidney.

He said the biggest difference between his first term and if re-elected is experience.

“I was going in blind my first one. This one I know what to expect and I guess experience and everything, and want to keep the ball rolling on everything that we got going and ... great things are going to be happening,” he said.
