DALTON – Leyton High School senior Alec Watchorn is officially committed to Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D.

He signed his letter of intent before students, staff and family Friday at Leyton High School.

His scholarship is a credit to his academics and athletics. He has a grade point average “pretty close to 3.9,” he said.

In addition to his academics, his scholarship is for Track. His focus is on hurdles. In high school, he was part of the football and basketball teams. The Leyton football team went to the quarter finals this year, and the basketball team made it to District finals. He was on the football and basketball teams all four years of high school. He said football is his favorite sport; however, Augustana chose him for track.

Watchorn said he was attracted to Augustana by his reception while visiting the campus.

“I went on a lot of different visits, and when I went there, they treated me really nicely, and I was impressed with everything they offered; and they actually offered me the most,” Watchorn said.

He runs hurdles in track, both 110-meter and 300 meter events.

“I’m blessed to get this offer and I’d like to thank my teammates, my coaches and my parents, and thank God for everything I have,” he said.
