STANTON, Neb.- Not even a full day after a northeast Nebraska sheriff announced his retirement, the race to replace him has already become crowded.
Two officers in the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office have announced their intent to run for outgoing Sheriff Mike Unger’s seat.
Chief Deputy Aaron Kleensang said in a statement early Tuesday that he is running. Kleensang said he has been in law enforcement for more than 20 years and was promoted to his current position in June 2023.
Meanwhile, Sgt. Tyler Evans told the Stanton County Register that he is also running.
Evans has been with the department since 2015 and was promoted to sergeant in August 2023.
