GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — A Grand Island man is charged with attempted first-degree murder among other crimes following a stabbing of his ex-partner over the weekend.

According to police, the female victim had a protection order against 54-year-old Jesus Perez San Roman following a history of domestic abuse.

The woman had recently returned from vacation and wanted her house key back from Perez San Roman, who had been caring for her cat while she was away.

When she confronted him at her home on Sutherland Street, an argument broke out, with officers saying Perez San Roman choked the woman from behind and stabbed her in the upper chest.

A man who was at the residence intervened and restrained Perez San Roman until police arrived.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Perez San Roman is being held at the Hall County Jail and is due in court in December.
