KIMBALL -- Kimball city council members debated the election of a new Council President Tuesday evening, resulting in the election of Greg Robinson.

Council Member James Shields nominated Robinson.

Council Member Austin Garner said, “While I have great respect for the experience that our appointed members bring, I believe the presidency of this council should rest with someone who has been directly elected by our constituents.”

Shields countered with: “Every board member up here has been – at one point or another – elected to a position on city council through the residents of the community, and the appointments come from the mayor who has been elected; he represents the residents and constituents as well, so his appointment carries weight.”

The council ultimately voted 3-1 to elect Robinson, with Garner voting against.
