NORFOLK, Neb. — Two teenagers are critically injured after a one-vehicle crash on a county road near Norfolk.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday on E. Benjamin Avenue, about 2.5 miles east of Highway 35. The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office says an eastbound SUV left the road, hit a power pole and landed on its side in a ditch. The force of the crash ejected the passenger, who was unrestrained. A medical helicopter flew the passenger to an Omaha hospital. An ambulance transported the driver to a local hospital.
Photos from the scene show that the accident split the power pole and knocked it sideways.
The Sheriff’s Office says automatic accident detection from a cell phone notified authorities of the crash. The accident is under investigation.
