Hawks fall short in second-half rally
NORFOLK - The Northeast Hawks ended the 2025 regular season in a tough home defeat to the Ellsworth Panthers 75-64.
The Hawks (20-7) lost to the Panthers (23-5) earlier this season and looked for a chance to move into a tie for second place in the conference.
Northeast trailed early, but took the lead off a Mia Wiederin three-pointer and held it for the rest of the first quarter.
The Panthers took off in the next frame, outscoring the Hawks 26-12 behind the deep shooting of Laia Santanach.
After trailing by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, Northeast began to chip away, led by Mia Wiederin's incredible second-half performance.
Wiederin scored 14 points in the third quarter to bring the Hawks within four points by the end of the quarter.
Northeast's Aaliyah Jones scored a clutch bucket to bring the game within two points, but the Panthers answered back every time and eventually pulled out the 11-point victory.
Mia Wiederin scored 27 points, while tallying 5 rebounds in the loss. Aaliyah Jones added 13 and Merel Braakhuis scored 10.
Laia Santanach led scoring for the Panthers with 19 points.
