'Freak accident' in Stanton County sends family to hospital
STANTON - Authorities say a freak accident on Highway 275 in Stanton County could have been much worse.
The Stanton County Sheriff's Office was called out to investigate an accident about five miles east of Norfolk Wednesday evening.
Sheriff's officials say an eastbound SUV driven by 30-year-old Kammie Andrade, of Bancroft, stopped along the highway because of mechanical issues.
She got out of her vehicle when suddenly it began rolling backward down a steep ditch about 30 yards away while her seven-year-old daughter and five-year-old son were still inside.
The SUV landed in a small creek with water running through it.
Andrade and her children were taken to the hospital for treatment. They're all expected to survive.
