John Higgins Invitational crowns Bennington team title in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Neb. — Bennington rolled to the team championship at the John Higgins Wrestling Invitational on Saturday, finishing with 193.5 points to top a 14-team field at Lexington High School.
Gering placed second with 156.5 points, followed by York with 133 and Gretna at 122. North Platte rounded out the top five with 116.5 points. Sidney finished 12th overall with 51 points.
Bennington claimed multiple individual titles, including championships from Lane Welchert at 113 pounds, Finn Williams at 132 and Brodee Scobee at 138. The Badgers also added podium finishes across nearly every weight class to pull away from the field.
Gering secured individual wins from Frost Wallace at 120 and Rece Knight at 175, while North Platte picked up titles from Tyler Haneborg at 126 and Reece Perry at 190.
Lexington earned a home-title performance at 157 pounds, where Allen Diaz remained unbeaten on the season with a major decision victory in the finals. Cozad’s Wyatt Hueftle captured the 106-pound title, while McCook’s Tristan Campbell stayed perfect on the year by winning at 144.
Sidney’s top finish came at 215 pounds, where Cayson Boltjes won the championship with a major decision over North Platte’s Will Rathjen. The Red Raiders also placed Rylan Swope fifth at 113 and Zech Roggasch sixth at 165.
