COLUMBUS, Neb.-- A Columbus-based pharmaceutical manufacturer is announcing a major expansion.

BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) said in a news release that it will be investing $110 million into an expansion to its Columbus facility. The expansion is to increase the production of pre-fillable syringes.

"As demand for biologics and GLP-1s accelerates, BD is strengthening its American manufacturing footprint to support U.S.-based drug delivery innovation and supply chain resiliency," said worldwide president of BD Pharmaceutical Systems Patrick Jeukenne.

The expansion could bring in around 120 new jobs to the area, expected to be hired by the middle of this year, according to the news release.

Gov. Jim Pillen, U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts and other Nebraska officials said the expansion is good for Nebraska and they are glad the project could bring jobs into the state.

The company recently invested $35 million into the same facility to produce more pre-filled flush syringes for catheter care that could add around 50 new jobs.
