COLUMBUS, Neb. — A second measles case has been confirmed in Platte County.

The East Central District Health Department announced Wednesday that a household member of the first measles case, which was announced Tuesday, has also been confirmed to have the disease. A news release says the new patient is also unvaccinated.

The health department says there are no new exposure sites related to the second case. The existing exposure sites are:

• Shell Creek Baptist Church, Columbus, NE, on December 24 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

• Columbus Community Hospital Emergency Department, Columbus, NE, on December 29 from 2 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.

The two Platte County measles cases are the second and third confirmed cases in Nebraska in 2025. Before this year, the state hadn’t had a measles case since 2017.

The health department stresses that there's no specific treatment for measles and that immunization is the best way to protect yourself and your family.
