KIMBALL - Kimball County Transit Service (KCTS) has announced several upcoming changes aimed at improving efficiency and meeting increased demand for rides while working within a limited budget.

In a letter to riders, KCTS Director Christy Warner said on-demand fares have been adjusted to a simpler, mileage-based structure. Rates will be set at 25 cents per mile for the first 50 miles, 75 cents per mile for miles 51–100 and $1 per mile beyond 100 miles. Discounts will continue for medical rides, groups of four or more, and personal care attendants, who ride free.

The service is also shifting to “Routes by Reservation,” ensuring more efficient vehicle use. Riders can make reservations via text, online or by submitting a schedule in person. A mobile app will launch soon to add another booking option.

Beginning Nov. 10, KCTS will implement a new scheduling software system called QRYDE. The program offers better management tools for staff and riders, including automated reminders and a simplified cancellation process. Cancellations will be accepted up to 72 hours before a ride without penalty, while late cancellations will not be refunded.

KCTS will also begin verifying rider profiles to ensure contact information is current. Warner emphasized personal information will be used only for compliance with state and federal transportation regulations.
