SIDNEY, Neb. - Sidney Volunteer Fire Chief Matt Butts is commending his department’s volunteers for their tireless service following a demanding stretch of calls in recent weeks.

In a message to the community, Butts said crews have been “exceptionally busy,” responding to multiple emergencies, attending trainings and supporting community events - all while keeping up with the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the department running.

“At one point, our volunteers responded to eight calls within just 36 hours,” Butts said. “That kind of pace takes a deep commitment to service, along with support from their families. These men and women don’t ask for recognition, they simply show up: day or night, weekday or weekend, ready to serve.”

Butts also thanked residents for their continued support, saying it strengthens the department’s tradition of volunteer service.

As Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, the department is reminding residents to check their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Butts encouraged residents to replace old batteries, test alarms, and review family escape plans.

“Sidney Volunteer Fire Department is proud to protect our community — but prevention starts at home,” Butts said. “Let’s keep each other safe, one battery at a time.”
