Small town in Nebraska brings statewide childcare initiative to life
NELIGH, Neb.— From small town to statewide initiative, Neligh is rolling out a brand new childcare resource statewide.
The town of just over 1,500 people worked with an Omaha based web design company to create resources across the entire state, easily accessed through the web.
The need for this new website came from the growing need for childcare in Nebraska.
“If we don’t have childcare we can’t fill jobs, our businesses fail so if we don’t do it now we’re just going to be that much further behind,” The City of Neligh Director of Economic Development Lauren Sheridan said.
NebraskaChildcare.org is a resource focused on supporting childcare and giving more access to providers for families.
“So we wanted to create this all in one portal and childcare Nebraska came about that,” Huntrex Media’s Mitch Hunt said.
Sheridan says support for providers is especially needed in Neligh, which made the decision to start this initiative even easier.
Bobbi Roeber owns Bobbis Busy Beehive. She’s excited for the tools being provided to her and her families through the site.
“I don’t see a lot of other towns even in the big cities trying to gather resources for us, so they’ve really made us feel seen here in Neligh,” Roeber said.
One of the main aspects of the website is being able to easily find providers. You can simply search a zip code.
“There is a database that the Department of Health and Human Services was able to share with us where we can connect every community by zip code and find providers in each location,” Sheridan said.
In addition to the providers on the website there are many other resources for providers or families. Grants, licensing and education are also available on the site.
The website is still in the early stages and more is expected to come in time.
