KEARNEY COUNTY, Neb. - A 13-year-old girl has died following a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 6/34 and Highway 44 in Kearney County.

According to the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene around 12:40 p.m. for a collision between a car and a semi truck hauling an empty tanker.

Investigators say a 17-year-old girl from Santa Fe, New Mexico, was turning north onto Highway 44 when the westbound semi struck the car.

The 13-year-old passenger was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities identified the truck driver as Daniel Shoemaker of O’Neill.

The Sheriff’s Office says everyone involved was wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol and the Kearney County Attorney’s Office.
