Drone helps Madison County Sheriff's Office locate missing man

MADISON, Neb. - Law enforcement in northeast Nebraska are crediting modern technology with helping locate a missing man over the weekend.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says deputies, along with multiple other agencies, responded Sunday to the Yellow Banks State Wildlife Management Area near Meadow Grove, about 16 miles west of Norfolk.
Family members of a 64-year-old man from Tilden reported they hadn’t heard from him in days. Rescue officials estimated he had been missing in the recreation area for about two days before authorities were called. He also has a medical condition that can cause confusion.
Just before nightfall, a drone detected a heat signature beneath a log structure that turned out to be the missing man.
“This was a time-sensitive situation, and all first responders did an outstanding job during this critical incident,” Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk said in a news release.
The man was transported to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk for evaluation.
