Scottsbluff boys, Gordon-Rushville girls capture Panhandle Cross Country Classic titles
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The 2025 cross country season got underway Thursday at the Panhandle Cross Country Classic at Riverview Golf Course, with Scottsbluff taking the boys team title and Gordon-Rushville earning the girls crown.
Alliance senior Trevor Zurn won the boys individual championship in 16:28.6, edging Hemingford’s Austin Benda, who finished second in 16:43.7.
Scottsbluff packed three runners in the top 10, led by sophomore Gavin Wemhoff in third at 17:16.3. Jacob Maser placed fourth (17:53.0) and Gavin Carrizales took 10th (18:14.9), helping the Bearcats score 28 points to top Alliance’s 31.
Sidney finished third with 72, followed by Hemingford (88), Chadron (91), Gordon-Rushville (96), Mitchell (112), Hay Springs (112) and Kimball (132).
The Raiders were led by sophomore Devin Roach, who finished in 12th place with a time of 18:24.
Gordon-Rushville dominated the girls race, placing three runners in the top four. Junior Rarity Cournoyer crossed the line first in 19:21.5, followed by teammates Kynsleigh Krebs (third, 20:57.2) and freshman Brittney Dehning (fourth, 20:59.6).
Hemingford sophomore Ainslee Woltman claimed runner-up in 20:43.4.
Scottsbluff placed four in the top 10, led by Natalee Bentley in eighth, but finished second as a team with 39 points. Hemingford was third with 40, Chadron fourth at 52 and Sidney fifth at 55.
Sidney junior Kylee Kampfe placed sixth individually in 21:30.4 to lead the Lady Raiders.
