Hearing continued to Sept. 16
SIDNEY -- A California man is being held on a $10 million bond after he was stopped by state patrol on Interstate 80.
He is being held on charges of Possession of More than 140 grams of Meth, Del/Dsp/Dst Controlled Substance and No Drug Tax Stamp.
Deuel County officials contacted the Nebraska State Patrol regarding a vehicle regularly making short, cross-country trips through Nebraska and returning to California.
Elmer Omar Pasadas Castro, 29, of El Monte, Calif., was driving a 2018 Honda CRV east on Interstate 80 near Sidney when he was contacted by a Nebraska State Patrol Trooper at 9:50 p.m.
According to court records, Pasadas Castro appeared to be nervous, visibly shaking. Records show the Trooper saw a single suitcase in the back of the vehicle with several pairs of clothing outside of the suitcase.
A translator with the Nebraska State Patrol was called. Pasadas Castro was asked for consent to search his vehicle. Troopers found the suitcase to contain vacuum bags of a white substance. Troopers collected 58 bags totaling about 60 pounds.
Pasadas Castro was taken into custody and transported to the Cheyenne County Jail.
