'Worth the investment': John Cook introduced as GM of Omaha Supernovas
LINCOLN, Neb. - John Cook has officially been introduced in his newest endeavor - General Manager of the Omaha Supernovas.
Stepping out of retirement just a few months after closing his chapter at Nebraska, Cook told reporters on Thursday he re-entered volleyball because he felt a sense of responsibility to the game he loves.
"I feel like I can still make a difference and I think I can help pro volleyball get going... And that's what they sold me on," Cook said. "They (Supernovas) are going to lead the way for professional volleyball. They're already showing they can do that, so if I can help raise the level and get a really great league and do this right, I thought it was a good investment."
A four-time national championship winning head coach at Nebraska, Cook said one of his main goals is to get former Huskers on the Supernovas. One of Cook's first moves was signing former Husker and former number one pick Merritt Beason.
But it's not just former Huskers Cook's looking for.
"Nebraska fans want to see former Nebraska players," Cook said. "That has always been a goal, sign players that have Nebraska connections and that will continue to be a priority."
