Domestic abuse related deaths rising for Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb.- The total number of deaths stemming from domestic abuse are already above last year, only halfway through the year.
The Attorney Generals Office has released a report breaking down these numbers.
Last year, there were 13 recorded deaths. So far this year, there are 15.
Since July of 2022, the Domestic Abuse Death Review Team has recorded 72 domestic abuse related deaths in Nebraska.
Douglas County has the highest percentage of deaths per capita at 0.047%, almost double Lancaster County at 0.025%, according to records.
"At the time of the victim(s) death, 6.7% of perpetrators had an active protection order filed against them. Over the course of their lives, 20% had at least one protection order granted against them, and an additional 10% had two such orders granted," according to DADRT.
