PANHANDLE -- The hazy skies Friday afternoon are a result of an active storm and of active wildfires in Canada.

Natural Resources Canada has documented 81 uncontrolled wildfires as of July 9. The same report shows 49 being held and 116 fires controlled. 

The National Wildland Situation Report shows 2,962 so far this year. The 10-year average is 2,961.

Wildland fires in Canada have impacted 4,659,972 hectares, or 11,515,024 acres. 

The National Interagency Fire Center reports significant fire potential in the northwest states and in central Texas. The National Weather Service air quality map shows smoke moving south from Canada.
