GRAND ISLAND, Neb.--The aftermath of a severe thunderstorm that moved through Grand Island Thursday night is visible on rooftops and scattered across yards.

The Grand Island area was in a severe thunderstorm warning from about 3:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday with the possibility of small hail, high winds and heavy rain.

The storm contained extreme wind gusts up to 62 miles per hour in some areas and trees were ripped from their roots.

One house, between Stolley Park and Shady Bend roads, is now littered with branches, leaves, and uprooted trees.

Keith Schleichardt, who watched the wall of wind move, saw his ten acres of property flattened in seconds.

"I was flashing my high beams because as I turned the corner I could see the wall of wind coming," said Schleichardt. "My boy took off for the garage and about the time he pulled into the garage, I watched the wind hit, limbs fly and tree limbs come down all around me. I didn't know what to do because I didn't know if it was a tornado or what was happening at that point and just like that it was over with all this damage left."

Other extensive damage areas were north of town, near Abbott and Engleman roads.

Golf ball sized hail was also reported.
