KEARNEY, Neb. --

Even though they weren't wrestling for much of anything, the competition bug still has a strong reaction as a woman screams from the stands with her camera phone focused on the match.

The Maine-Nebraska Wrestling Exchange is being hosted by Nebraska this year, and they did a year ago, too.

In fact, they've traded hosting states every other year since the 1984 inception.

A crop of wrestlers from the visiting state get to the hosting region, doing a variety of events over the course of several days, making numerous stops along the way, and yes, they even roll out the mats for some grappling.

One of the four stops for a dual was held in Kearney on Monday night at the Cope Amphitheater of Yanney Park.

The free showcase had strong support and the temperatures were ideal for competition, albeit friendly.
One of the many reasons behind hosting an event of this nature is for kids to be able to expand their horizons and meet some new people halfway across the country, forming friendships and getting new life experiences with wrestlers from their home state and the other.

They were in Cambridge last week, and they still have stops in Central City and Nebraska City before heading back home.Maine won the duel in Cambridge.

Nebraska came out on top in Kearney by a score of 47-30.
