Nebraska's Top High School Golfers Tee Off in Kearney
KEARNEY, Neb. - The best senior high school golfers from across the state are in Central Nebraska this week for an all-star event.
The 23rd annual Nebraska Lions All Star Golf Tournament is underway at Meadowlark Hills in Kearney, with 60 golfers competing to see who’s the best.
30 Boys and 30 girls from each athletic class are invited yearly, and they can bring anybody to serve as their caddy for the event.
Lions Club officials say golf was underrepresented in the high-school all-star format, so they took it upon themselves to set up an annual game among the state’s best high-school seniors.
Past Chair of the Papillion Lions Club Tom Vitamvas added that Kearney’s Meadowlark Hills Golf Course "has been the host for nearly a decade straight since alternating between various courses across the state."
They said Kearney's central location along with the course’s hospitality made it an easy choice to continue at the site. The two-day event concludes Tuesday afternoon when competitors finish their second round of the course.
