KEARNEY, Neb. - In this year's 67th Nebraska Shrine Bowl there's more than just talent on the field- there's family.

For one father and son duo from Oakland-Craig the game is more than just a competition.

It's a culmination of years of shared memories, hard work and a deep love for football. The Shrine Bowl isn't just a football game for Joe and Braylon Anderson.

It's also a full circle family moment. Braylon has been coached by his dad since elementary school, going from the backyard to the big stage.

"Our house is football, football, football since he was five or six. You know we do everything together on the weekends. It's a full weekend of football at times," said Joe Anderson.

"Everything we do, like, we watch a bunch of football, whether it's like college or other high school games, NFL. Like, we're always watching football year-round, whether it's even like on YouTube or like Twitter. We're always just watching football," said Braylon.

Joe added that his son "Has been on the sidelines with me since about third grade, and, you know, I don't think he's missed a game. So, it's pretty neat to go out and go out there together one more time."

"He's, like, coached since, like, fifth grade, and, like, we watch a lot of football together. And I'm just trying to, like, just enjoy it while it lasts and enjoy this last game," said Braylon.

The two are representing Oakland-Craig, a small town with big football pride, is something both father and son carry with honor.

"We don't get one of these guys every year. You know we've had some good football players playing, but it's a great honor to coach with Braylon again and go out on top," said Joe.

While the Shrine Bowl is the end of one chapter, it's just the beginning of another. Braylon is headed to play football at Wayne State, and Joe will be watching, not from the sidelines, but proudly from the stands.

"I'll be an empty nester after he leaves. So it's definitely going to change, you know, not somebody there to watch football with every second of the day. And it'll be fun to follow him and keep going to games and keep watching him grow and become a better player," said Joe.

The Andersons, along with the rest of the North team, will face off against the South squad this Saturday at 4 p.m. from Cope Stadium in Kearney.
