WWII Veteran among two people killed in Highway 26 crash near Scottsbluff
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – A World War II veteran and his daughter were killed Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 26 and West 42nd Street near Scottsbluff, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
Officials identified the victims as Harry Lynn, 102, and Sherri Lynn, 65, both of Scottsbluff. The pair were in a Buick Lacrosse traveling eastbound on Highway 26 around 12:30 p.m. when the vehicle attempted to turn north onto W. 42nd Street. It turned into the path of a westbound Ford F-350, and the resulting collision pushed both vehicles into a Honda Pilot that was stopped at the intersection.
Harry and Sherri Lynn were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Honda sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the Ford was not injured.
Just weeks before the crash, Gov. Jim Pillen honored Harry Lynn for his service in World War II during a special ceremony recognizing Nebraska veterans. Lynn was remembered for his bravery and dedication to his country.
Gov. Pillen issued a statement about Lynn's death.
“It was my privilege and an honor to have the opportunity to meet Harry and the other members of his family just a few weeks ago. It means a great deal that I was able to deliver that medal to him, and that the community was there to honor him in person. First Lady Suzanne and I extend our condolences and prayers to Harry’s family as they deal with their tremendous loss.”
