Gov. Pillen to recognize Sisters as WWII Hometown Heroes
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Gov. Jim Pillen is continuing to honor Nebraskans who served in World War II.
His tour took him to Heritage Ridge in Bellevue on Monday, where he honored Margy Dietz and Marcy Lackovic.
The two sisters worked at the Martin Bomber Plant south of Omaha during the second World War.
Pillen stressed the importance of the Department of Veterans' affairs ongoing Hometown Heroes Tour, which looks to honor all of Nebraska's living World War II service members.
"It's such an extraordinary privilege when we come together, community and we thank the greatest generation for the impact that they had," Pillen said.
"Probably the most exciting thing in my whole life, outside of the fact President Roosevelt was just from here to you to me, those two things stand in my mind," Dietz said.
Both Dietz and Lackovic were presented with commemorative medals honoring their service.
Pillen's Hometown Heroes Tour takes him to a retirement facility in Grand Island Tuesday.
