WILBER - An already bizarre trial took an unimaginable turn on Monday morning.

At 11:19 a.m., as a fourth witness was about to take the stand, Aubrey Trail, who faces a first degree murder charge in the death and dismemberment of Sydney Loofe, shouted out, "Bailey Boswell is innocent! Curse you all!"

Immediately after, he grabbed an unknown object/weapon and made several slashes on the right side of his neck before falling over in his wheelchair.

Some from inside the room believe the weapon to be a "piece of a razor blade," but that's not official at this point.

Saline County authorities quickly converged, proceedings were suspended and the public was rushed out of the courtroom.

Trail was escorted from the Saline County Courthouse by a Wilber Fire and Rescue ambulance at about 11:30. It's not known where he was transported.

Joe Murray, one of Trail's defense attorneys, said his client had to get "multiple stitches," but was in the process of getting checked out of the hospital Monday afternoon.

Saline County District Judge Vicky Johnson came back into the courtroom at about 2:20 p.m. She says Trail is in custody, and will appear in handcuffs for the remainder of the trial.

Johnson then adjourned for the day, but talked with all 12 jurors individually in her office Monday afternoon, with one attorney from each side present.

She asked the jury to “not take the outburst into consideration.”

The trial is resumed to start again on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Trail faces the death penalty if convicted of first degree murder. He's already pled guilty to the felony charge of improper disposal of human remains.

Loofe disappeared on Nov. 15, 2017. Her remains were found in garbage bags in a roadside ditch. on Dec. 5 in rural Clay County.

Trail has had a stroke and two heart attacks since his arrest in December 2017.

This is a developing story. We'll have more information as we get it.
